Know the Limits of Your Dining Table Pads

Dining Table Pads – People buy table pads to protect their furniture from various types of damage. The desk pads protect the furniture from scratches and scratches, from water damage, and from heat damage. All the cushions work well with the first two. Nicks and scratches are prevented with padding thickness, and water damage can be prevented because the top layer of the pads is made of waterproof material. Heat protection, however, is another matter.

Most dining table pads are made with three basic layers – the top of the vinyl, the felt bottom layer, and the insulation layer between the two. The thickness of the insulating layer determines how much heat protection your table will have. Most table pads come with between a quarter inch and three-quarters of an inch of insulating material. Approximately half an inch of material is enough to protect the surface from temperatures reaching 500 to 600 degrees. However, note that although your desk may be protected, the pad’s desk itself can be easily damaged by extreme heat. The insulating layer can protect your desk from a 500-600 degree cast iron pan taken directly from the oven, but the vinyl top layer is most likely to burn or melt.

Then, once that happens, even though your table remains unaffected, your pad can not stand it anymore, and the bottom of your pot may be crushed without a thorough cleaning with lots of elbow grease. So, even though the desk manufacturer tells you how your table will be protected at high temperatures, remember that your own desk might be destroyed. Therefore, always place your pots on a hot saucer/plate, even if you use a pedestal. Dining table pads protect your table from spills and accidental incisions, but cannot be destroyed by yourself. Enjoy your dining table for years to come. Buy a table with good quality and use wisely.
